An organizational scientist and diagnostician of personal and organizational systems with Beta Gamma Sigma honors. Dr. Massey has more than two decades of professional experience in research and consulting within the public, private and non-profit sectors.
Dr. Harold Massey, is a clinically-certified behavioral scientist and consultant. An analyst of personal and organizational systems and relationships, Harold has global experience in over 28 nations. Specializing in leadership coaching, organizational intervention and cross-cultural dynamics, Dr. Massey provides clients both practical and analytic help. He has served a wide variety of leaders in non-profit and entrepreneurial enterprises as well as Fortune 500 corporations. Harold is the first person of color awarded Boston University’s D.B.A. in organizational behavior, which he earned with Beta Gamma Sigma honors. He holds post-doctoral Gestalt certifications and received a Kellogg National Fellowship from 1984-1987. Harold’s expertise includes intervention designs for the effective restructure of complex organizations, collaborative awareness, community dialogue, direct democracy, and individual life/leadership efficacy. Professional practice and cross-cultural research inform his global services: individual counseling (using techniques as varied as mind-body awareness and quantitative analysis), systems analysis and leadership coaching. Harold’s focus is empowering individuals, underperforming community and business leaders, religious organizations, corporate enterprises and industry cartels in pursuit of greater efficacy, systemic change, seeking seamless, self-determined remediation of formerly dysfunctional dynamics from within them. Deploying varied life experiences as a factory worker, a student activist, a human rights professional and consultant, a university professor, and a director/trustee on numerous governance boards, Harold enjoys learning and growth through a focus on healing and meaningful change. Recent client engagements include coaching and process consultation for corporate downsizing, a producer of citizen dialogues on the economy (more than 60 cities linked by satellite & webcast), and individualized leadership coaching for career challenges of professionals in several industries. Notable clients served by Dr. Massey include the National Council of Churches, THOR Construction, the United Church of Christ Collegium of Officers, Harvard University, Research Triangle Institute, Aetna, Inc., Massachusetts Institute of Technology, United Health Group, Los Angeles’ Community Coalition, Five Colleges, Inc., the World Council of Churches of Christ, Boston Leadership Academy, America Speaks, Churches Uniting in Christ, and Oberlin College and diverse professionals. Dr. Massey began his professional career with the U.S. Department of State and the United Methodist Board of Church and Society. He holds certifications as a mediator, a personal counselor, a paralegal in civil law, and an official international observer of national government elections. Community activism for human rights preceded Harold’s leadership consulting and entrepreneurial efforts. His greatest passions arise from faith-based service and cross-cultural experiential learning. Dr. Massey has artistic roles as a writer of fiction and other creative entrepreneurial initiatives. Harold earned high honors at Amherst College prior to graduate schooling at Yale and Boston Universities. Governance roles with various non-profit organizations and mentoring youth complement his work. Attorney Gaye Adams Massey is his partner of nearly four decades. They are blessed with three children: Nyah, a middle schooler, Kamau, an MBA student, and Amina, a Ph.D. candidate, medical sociologist. |
